The Data Analyst III, Healthcare is responsible for supporting the strategic processes for Medicare (e.g., Strategic Planning, Annual decision-making, Multi-year planning) by providing timely data extracts and supporting analysis. This position, by utilizing SAS, Teradata SQL, R and other programming languages, has a critical role in performing data mining, advanced financial modeling and statistical analysis vital to the financial performance and stability of the Medicare Line of Business.
Essential Functions:
- Supplies the data and analytical needs to understand various Medicare subpopulations within and across KP regions in order to identify cost-saving opportunities/initiatives.
- Participates in cross-functional workgroups focused on analytics surrounding risk adjustment, care delivery, affordability and other initiatives specific for the Medicare Line of Business.
- Responsible for analytic reporting and tool standardization.
- Collects and organize data from mainframe files, data warehouses, vendor extracts, departmental spreadsheets and databases for easy use by regional and national business partners and clients.
- Partner with national risk adjustment team and clinical providers through data and analytics to identify opportunities for coding improvements.
- Collaborates with leadership and national peers in analyzing and interpreting risk adjustment data.
- Analyzes and monitors performance reports to assure data accuracy and integrity, triaging data problems directly to leads for administrative and clinical systems.
- Fulfillment of ad-hoc data requests based on existing and/or new business needs.
- Create and maintain databases as a tool for delivering data to clients.
- Translate customer business requirements needs into a final product.
- May provide guidance to less experienced data analysts.
- Reviews and ensures adequacy of technical operating instruction manuals, system documentation, standards and procedures.
- Contributes to the achievement of department objectives.
- Involves interpreting and analyzing established concepts.
- Develops solutions to complex problems.
- May refer to established precedents and policies when making decisions.
- Requires significant analysis to develop solutions for complex problems.

Experience
- Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience required, including mainframe, large databases or data warehouses, data analysis and production of datasets.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in SAS and/or Teradata SQL and large databases/sets or data warehouses.
- Expert proficiency in PC based word processing and spreadsheet applications, including advanced functions such as graphics, pivot tables, macros and database management.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of equivalent experience in healthcare, finance, information systems or related area.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

Additional Requirements:
- Expert understanding of databases, data relationships, quality and integrity.
- Expert with query tools such as SQL and WinSQL.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
- Requires strong communication skills, ability to keep up with technological changes, techniques and improvements, and apply those to current environment, strong customer service focus, and good organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of internet, intranet, mainframe, and PC environments.
- Proven ability to work with customers to understand business requirements and translate those needs into a final product.
- Requires an understanding of clinical, administrative, and financial information systems.
- Problem solving skills including the ability to research and initiate a data extract and report that answers key questions not answerable using known sources.
- Requires that analyst be an expert on data availability and quality, have a strong understanding of the business requirements, and the creativity to develop workable solutions for a wide ranges of customers.
