Summary:
This full-time position will work within the McKinsey lab and the Consortium for Fibrosis Research & Translation (CFReT).
This position will be involved in basic, mechanistic research to elucidate pathways that regulate the intersection between obesity and heart disease.
This position will also be involved in translating discoveries made at the bench into early-stage drug discovery projects focused on developing new therapies for cardiometabolic diseases and fibrotic diseases of the heart, lungs, kidneys and liver.
Work will include cell culture and animal models, western blotting and qRT-PCR, as well as Omics analyses of the transcriptome and epigenome.
This position will also spearhead the development, validation, and implementation of high throughput cell-based assays, biochemical assays, and curating biological samples and collections of small molecules.
Prior experience with developing cell and biochemical assays based on fluorescence, luminescence, and absorbance readouts is desirable, as is a background in molecular biology and/or protein purification.
A strong foundation in cell culture methods is required.
The individual will be required to accurately record and interpret data, perform basic statistical analyses, and be knowledgeable in word processing and spreadsheets.
The individual will work as a part of a team, but, as an intermediate level scientist, will also be expected to have significant autonomy.

Responsibilities:
Perform cell culture, mouse model and biochemical studies to address disease mechanisms.
Provide guidance to the team on how to proceed with the research.
Communicate findings at group and divisional meetings.
Maintain a detailed notebook to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of data.
Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) Conduct hypothesis-driven research to uncover molecular mechanisms of cardiac and metabolic diseases.
Translate basic research findings into early-stage drug discovery programs.

Qualifications:
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
One (1) year professional level research experience.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $43,834 - $55,757.
The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
