Summary:
This full-time, Research Services Professional - Entry Level position will support our laboratory's interest in defining how the bacterial pathogen Shigella flexneri invades and spreads between cells.
We are particularly interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms by which bacterial virulence systems enable infection and in processes by which bacterial pathogens manipulate the cytoskeleton of mammalian cells.
This position is structured and designed to provide training and experience in the investigation of bacterial infections using cellular and animal models.
Microbiological and molecular biology techniques used in the position include:
PCR, cell culture, cloning, microscopy, DNA extraction, DNA sequencing, cultivation of bacterial organisms, and western blotting.
The position will also assist in preparation of common laboratory reagents and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies.
Key Responsibilities Research Duties:
Perform experiments and analyze collected experimental data.
Prepare manuscripts of research findings.
Maintain records of research in laboratory notebook.
Actively participate in weekly laboratory meetings.
Aid in the preparation of manuscripts and grants.
General lab management:
Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies.
Stock newly arrived laboratory supplies.
Aid in the preparation of laboratory buffers and reagents.
Coordinate maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related field.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications One year of experience working in a laboratory environment with knowledge of aseptic technique and ability to clonally isolate bacteria.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated excellent oral communication skills with the ability to exchange and collect information.
Experience working with BSL2 level pathogens.
Experience with molecular cloning and generation of recombinant DNA constructs.
Experience in keeping activity logs and managing inventory.
Experience culturing mammalian cells.
Experience with western blotting.
Planning and organizational skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $40,280 - $51,236.
The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
