Job Description Purdue Home Care is looking for a Direct Support Professional who is committed and energetic; someone who is an empathetic listener and preferably has experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Overall, the person we hire will assist our residents with administering medications, maintaining hygiene, and making overall healthy choices.
Top candidates are empathetic, patient and prudent.
Must be comfortable working with male clients.
Essential Tasks & Responsibilities Train, assure and assist individuals in completing daily activities and other tasks (cleaning after themselves, meal preparation, budgeting, hygiene, social activities, etc.
) Meet individuals' needs for transportation (may include driving or assisting in accessing transportation) Implement and document individuals' care plans and protocols Carry out scheduled community activities (transports, provides supervision) Assist with medications (i.
e.
, administration, pill packing, monitoring) as certified, and document as appropriate Monitor health needs of individuals and assist in obtaining health care as needed Provide medical care in accordance with established protocols, to include First Aid/CPR when needed Document program, incident, medical and financial information as required Use web-based computer programs to document medication administrations Qualifications High school diploma or GED Be willing to work a minimum of 2 shifts/week and a maximum of 40 hrs/week Be able to pass and maintain certification in all agency required training Pass a criminal background check Perform personal care/medication procedures and consistently lift up to 50 lbs Ability to read, write and converse in English and perform simple math calculations Know how to use the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) at an intermediate level; ability to use Outlook to communicate through email Have a valid driver's license, own reliable vehicle and good driving record.
Six or more months professional or personal experience with children, elderly people, or people with disabilities, preferred Ability to resolve conflict under pressure when intervening with unpredictable and aggressive individuals during escalated/crisis moments, which might take place in their workplace, home, or community Experience with safety control or crisis prevention training is a plus Certification in CPR, First Aid, and QMAP About Us Purdue Home Care is an agency dedicated to supporting persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through a variety of community-based services designed to empower individuals with IDD to live as independently as possible in the community of their choice.
