Summary:
The School of Medicine Information Services (SOMITSS) team works to advance the School and University's missions by providing innovative technology solutions and services to the School of Medicine and their constituents and partners.
This position will be a member on a small team of Linux and Microsoft System Administrators, primarily as the Linux administrator for physical machines in multiple data centers, with secondary duties working on Virtual Linux machines on VMWare and Hyper-V.
Some work with Microsoft products is expected.
The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for:
Performing physical hardware setup in multiple data centers on the campus, and configuring analytic clusters as required.
Installation and configuration of the Linux operating systems (RHEL, Ubuntu), and handling of the new releases, patches, and upgrades - both on physical and virtual machines running on VMware and Hyper-V.
Joining servers to the domain and providing authentication using Active Directory security groups is required.
Configuration of RAID storage, networking and iDracs.
Configuration of backups, and performing data and OS restores.
OS hardening, applying security to meet HIPAA and NIST 800-171 regulations.
Meeting with customers, identifying hardware needs, getting quotes and purchasing hardware from Dell.
Linux automation tools, like Ansible and Puppet.
Deploying monitoring and log agents, like Zabbix and Splunk.
Installing software like R, SaS, Matlab, PostgreSQL, etc.
Documentation, password management, and process standardization.
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule to be mutually agreed upon.

Qualifications:
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Management/Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
Substitution:
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
At least five (5) years of experience providing hands-on server support for Linux OS.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Experience with ZenDesk or similar ticketing system.
Experience with Active Directory users and computers.
Experience supporting information technologies in an academic environment.
Experience working with a wide range of computer network systems including Linux, Windows and Mac and providing support for users.
Experience providing technical training and support to users.
Knowledge of Shiny applications.
Experience in cloud-based technologies including Microsoft Azure and Google.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to provide technical training to end users including being able to communicate technical information in a manner which non-technical personnel can understand.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $73,436 to $93,410.
The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
