Focus:
Bat and Human Innate Immune Responses to RNA Viruses.
For this position, the Division of Infectious Diseases seeks an individual with molecular biology skills to work on funded projects in virology and innate immunity, including cell-culture based studies of the innate immune system of bats, which biologically distinctive mammals that are frequently reservoirs of emerging or potentially emerging viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, Nipah/Hendra, gammaretroviruses, and others.
The position holder will perform experiments using viruses and gene-delivering single cycle viral vectors, plasmid DNA, PCR, western blotting, cultured cell lines and other standard molecular biology methods.
Animal work or animal tissue handling is not a major role, but some participation when needed is expected.
The work will mainly entail a very interesting mix of molecular biology and cell culture methods to discover new aspects of antiviral innate immunity.
Work will include a variety of general molecular and cellular biology techniques including PCR, immunoblotting, DNA/RNA purification, RNA-seq, CRISPR knockout cell line derivation, and cell culture with primary and immortalized cell cultures.
The employee will be involved in experimental design and data analyses.
Some contribution to general lab maintenance and ordering is also expected.
Key
Responsibilities:
Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects including cell culture experiments, multi-color flow cytometry, ELISAs, immunohistochemistry, viral and bacterial propagation, processing of mouse tissue and blood samples.
Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.
Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.
Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs including overseeing general laboratory maintenance, adherence to biosafety regulations and assist with the submission of biosafety applications.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:
Minimum
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a natural science related field and 2-4
years of experience in a basic/translational science wet bench laboratory Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field and 1
years of experience in a basic/translational science wet bench laboratory.
Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.
Wet bench laboratory experience in a basic/translational research laboratory.
This includes short-term experience in basic or translational laboratories.
Proven independence in experiment design, analysis, and result write ups.
Experience with molecular biology methods.
Experience with bacterial growth, transfection, and protein isolation/purification.
Experience in virology.
Experience with CRISPR gene editing and lentiviral vector preparation.
Experience with mouse models.
Experience with or Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3 work), or willingness to be trained in this kind of work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques, western blotting, plasmid cloning in E.
Coli, cell culture, and virology methods.
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $42,088 - $53,536.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
