We are seeking a strong Engineerto join Kaiser Permanente ITNetwork Servicesteam to develop next generation Wide Area network solutions and strategies with an emphasis on resiliency, performance, availability, and stability. Kaiser Permanente's Wide Area Network Engineering team is responsible for the Wide Area Network routing of Internet Protocol based communication supporting all hosted critical healthcare, business, voice, and video with business partners to develop options consistent with standards, recommendations & associated cost benefits, and provide engineering design for implementation. Research and assess and pilot emerging technologies. Oversee, certify, and assist in implementation and support of enterprise-wide network, including managed services providers.
As a Principal in Wide Area Network Engineering, you will support the delivery of Wide Area network solutions supporting the expansion of Kaiser-s Intranet, Extranet and Internet. From design to operations, you will be responsible for the gathering of network requirements, the development of low-level Wide Area design documents and the turn up of solutions to support network requirements. You will be required to demonstrate strong skills in the areas of Automation, Communication, Innovation, Technology, Problem solving, Driving for results and Service Design. You will work with a peer virtual team of 8
highly skilled Network Engineers in delivering solutions that are always available, provide unconstrained bandwidth, drive toward lowering cost and achieve low and consistent latency. At Kaiser, we look for technical network engineers who are passionate about building the highly available networks, as well as possess the ability work efficiently through existing department processes and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and present tactical network engineering packages.
- Maintain the standard for low-level design documentation and templates.
- Maintain the method of procedures for all Wide Area Network changes to the network
- Support the Plan, Design, and Implement Facility -Sites- Wide Area Networks, including development of configurations.
- Validate the Implementation Wide Area Networks, including development of configurations.
- Support the Plan, Design, and Implementation Voice over IP (VoIP) Networks, including development of configurations.
- Support the Plan, Design, and Implementation Load Balancing and Application Acceleration Services.
- Implement routing protocols, including OSPF, and BGP.
- Implement network features, including QoS, EEM and BFD.
- Troubleshooting and problem solving for network and application issues.
- Configure and assist with implementation of network hardware, including routers, switches, VoIP equipment, security appliances, etc.
- Create and maintain network documentation as it relates to network topology, equipment, and configuration.
- Interact and negotiate with application owners, project managers, vendors, consultants, and contractors to design and implement network solutions.
- Perform network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Make use of standard operating procedures and applications for service, change, and incident management.
- Plan and develop business continuity and disaster recovery strategy for critical application recovery.

- Minimum twelve (12) years of related experience, inlcuding eight (8) years of demonstrated ability in technology area.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms and is able to tailor communication to audience, mediate and facilitate communications between others, and communicate architecture to all levels of management and customers. Ability to gain buy-in from stakeholders to resolve significant architecture issues.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams across functional areas or KP in projects or initiatives or leads technology direction at the highest solution architectural level. Experience in 'building up' a solutioning architecture team. Ability to transfer knowledge, educate in area of expertise, mentoring other staff. Demonstrated ability in selection and deployment of new and emerging technology

- Strong technical project management and engineering skills
- Strong network documentation skills and can publish written standards for use by network peers
- Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Excellent customer service focus and analytical problem solving abilities
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication and presentation skills
- Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
- Experience with Business Continuity and Disaster recovery strategies for testing and verification of technical network solutions established for recovery operations.
- Industry related certifications. Cisco CCNP and/or CCDP. Cisco CCIE certification not required but a definite plus.
- Knowledge of HP C-Class, IBM P-Series and ESX Servers, F5 Load Balancers, Cisco and PaloAlto Security Firewalls, Brocade SANs, Oracle RAC, EMC, and Riverbed Application Accelerators Extensive knowledge of Remedy, Microsoft Visio, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- In-depth knowledge of Cisco IOS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF and MPLS environments. Knowledge of Juniper -M and E- Series is a definite plus.
- In-depth hands on experience with Cisco Catalyst 35xx, 37xx, 65xx (Sup 720) series equipment
- Knowledge and hands on experience with Cisco Nexus 9K series equipment
- In-depth knowledge of IP traffic flow, protocol analysis, capturing and monitoring of live traffic streams.
- Ability to document all aspects of KPIT network and services provided to users.
