Volunteer Victim Advocate 2017

This is a volunteer position
Victim Advocates will be trained to offer crisis intervention to victims of crime in Arapahoe County and the City of Centennial. They will also provide information on the criminal justice system, referral information, aid in acquiring emergency shelter, and facilitate other immediate needs.
Provide advocacy and immediate crisis intervention for victims of crimes.
Assess immediate victim needs, including that of shelter and provide referrals and follow-up services.
Act as a liaison between victims and the criminal justice system.
Provide victims with the information on other proceedings.
Ensure that victims are aware of their rights under the Colorado Victim Rights Act.
Additionally, they will provide information for Victims Compensation and assist them in applying for appropriate funds if needed.
Complete necessary reports, documenting services rendered and activities performed.
Represent the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office in a positive and professional manner.
Attend Monthly Meetings which are generally the first Monday of every Month.
Volunteer Victim Advocates are required to sign-up for two shifts per month. Shifts are Monday-Friday 5:30 pm to 6:00 am and weekends are 24 hour shifts, 7:00 am 7:00 am.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be able to work on-call shifts.
Advocates must have an open non-judgmental attitude towards victims/survivors.
Advocates must be able to communicate well, think clearly under pressure, and respond quickly in stressful situations.
Must complete initial training, and successfully pass all application requirements.
Must have a valid driver's license.
Must be able to use personal car for response to calls.
Supplemental Information:
Volunteer Victim Advocates will be provided in-depth and ongoing training in the dynamics of victimization, the criminal justice system, crisis intervention, and referrals and resources. Volunteer Victim Advocates will gain direct experience in providing crisis intervention and support to community members in need. They will also gain knowledge about law enforcement and the justice system. Being a Volunteer Victim Advocate will enhance the response to the rights of victims and survivors of crime, as well as, other community members who have experienced a traumatic event.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
