Datacenter Operations Technician II

Location: Aurora, CO
Vail Systems has an open opportunity for a Datacenter Operations Technician II in Aurora, CO. This position requires advanced skills and capabilities within the datacenter environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to organize technical tasks combined with detail oriented problem solving skills to resolve complex issues with little to no direct onsite supervision. Strong aptitude for adapting and applying cross industry solutions also highly sought after.
This position will incrementally be responsible for supporting internal projects and the diverse hardware systems that support these projects along with working proficiency in basic software deployment & installation. Experience dealing with a ticket driven work flows is a must. Strong written and oral communications skills and experience working with both internal team members and external vendors is required. Candidate must have flexibility to work non-standard hours and/or weekends as required, occasionally with minimal notice. Candidate must has their own reliable transportation and be able to drive to the datacenter within 45 minutes.
General standard tasks will include, but not limited to: basic datacenter facility tasks; shipping & receiving, cabinet & racking installations, cable termination, cable installation, cable pulling, material handling, server installations, network equipment installations, hardware troubleshooting & repairs, general facility cleanup, working with & around HVAC systems, controls, and related electrical circuits.
Provide high quality internal and external services that reflect the Company values.
Maintain end to end ownership of the datacenter environment: installation of base infrastructure through continued uptime support.
Assemble/repair of hardware platforms to meet internal/customer project specifications.
Ability to lift and move heavy devices 25# or more.
Shipping & receiving of hardware orders with reconciliation against purchase orders.
Organize and maintain spare inventory levels and provide standard reports.
Network cabling, cable termination, cable testing.
Server and network hardware installations and component level upgrades.
Adaptability to adjust to fast moving projects, urgent deadlines, emergency requests.
Strong written and verbal communication with team members, vendors, and external customers.
Demonstrated critical thinking and ability to analyze hardware failures for swift resolution with minimal vendor support.
Maintain a clean, well organized, and functional work environment.
Prepare for weekly review status meetings.
Observe all procedures and processes for working around sensitive and confidential data.
Provide detailed updates to all documents, tickets, and processes related to assigned tasks.
Maintain a professional manner and attitude when working with team members, vendors, and customers.
Initiate processes and procedures to prevent or resolve identified problems.
Provide detailed analysis and proposed resolutions for assigned tasks.
Able to make decisions and organize tasks based on severity of the problem or impact to the customer or network.
Ability to install operating systems and basic network configurations post hardware installation.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware/software dependencies for problem resolution.
Ability to act/provide Remote Hands and Eyes support for SysAdmin, Netadmin, or vendor technicians.

Associate's degree in a technical field (Bachelor's preferred)
2-3 years Operations experience working in a datacenter environment
Advanced personal computer skills and productivity software experience; Microsoft Windows 7/8/10, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio, Apple OS-X (opensource experience a definite plus)
Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking
Experience in operating systems installations: Microsoft Windows Server, standard Linux distributions, & VMWare a must (experience with Cisco IOS, Sun Solaris, xBSD, and OS-X a plus)
Experience with component level repairs and troubleshooting: memory DIMMs, CPUs, disk controllers, network cards.
Experience with firmware and pre-OS configuration and updating processes.
Experience with vendor specific diagnostics valuable: Dell, Cisco, Juniper, etc.
Experience with bare metal software installations using imaging solutions (ghosting) or network based solutions (kickstart/jumpstart)
Demonstrated experience with copper cable termination: Cat5/6, T1, T3 (fiber a plus)
Demonstrated understanding of networking protocols, concepts, and methodologies
Ability to work in a datacenter environment for extended periods of time using keyboards, mouse, standard hand tools, headsets as required to complete assigned tasks.
Advanced verbal and written communications skills using standard communication methods & devices; text messaging, instant messaging, email, and web based ticketing systems.
Basic understanding of power distribution and HVAC systems and components normally found within the datacenter environment; CRAC units, PDUs, circuit breakers, 120/220v power circuits and terminology, hot/cold air flows.
Must posses a valid driver's license and ownership of reliable transportation.
Ability to work non-standard hours including nights and weekends.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
