Job Summary:
The University of Colorado Denver - Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a Cytotechnologist. This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) position is responsible for the microscopic examination of cells in order to detect cancer and/or other abnormalities, and report these results to the pathologist. This role will also assist in the collection and processing of FNA aspirations for immediate evaluation.
Examples of Work Performed:
+ Accurately screens all types of cytologic specimens (gynecological and nongynecological).
+ Provides direct diagnostic interpretations on normal gynecological specimens.
+ Provides indirect diagnostic interpretations on abnormal gynecological and nongynecological specimens, then forwards the case to the pathologist for review.
+ Assists with fine needle aspirate collection and preparation, maximizing cellular recovery and preservation.
+ Evaluates the technical quality of prepared specimens.
+ Performs quality control on 10% of prescreened gynecologic specimens.
+ Monitors/orders supplies as needed.
+ Maintains staining set-ups.
+ Attends cytology/histology correlation slide reviews.
+ Maintains laboratory equipment/microscopes.
+ Develops accurate and timely laboratory records in order to ensure compliance with regulatory and departmental requirements.
+ Evaluates and determine which cases must be submitted for a second review.
+ Evaluates specimens for cytologic changes, specifically related to complex malignant or pre-malignant cancer.
+ Recognizes the potential for specimen/processing errors and takes corrective action.
+ Participates in continuing education.
Salary and Benefits:
The hiring salary for this position is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, chemistry or biological sciences, or other closely related field.
+ Graduation from an accredited one year training program in cytotechnology.
Substitution:Related work experience that provides the same kind, amount and level of knowledge gained in the required education may substitute for the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis, but not for the required cytotechnology training program.
Conditions of Employment:
+ Must possess a current and valid ASCP Certification OR be willing, able and eligible to become certified within the first year of employment. The incumbent will be required to maintain their ASCP Certification by completing the appropriate continuing education requirements, and pass annual proficiency testing.
Must be willing and able to:
+ Lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs.
+ Be exposed to fumes, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, extreme cold, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
+ Frequently wash hands, as biohazardous materials may be present.
+ Sit and stand for long periods of time, frequently walk, and bend/stoop, as well as execute repetitive motions.
+ Wear appropriate safety equipment when handling biological samples and hazardous chemicals.
+ Work with complex and sharp laboratory equipment, and various chemical and biological solutions.
+ Work within a high-level secured facility.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's degree in medical technology, chemistry or biological sciences, or other closely related field.
+ One (1) or more years of professional experience as a Cytotechnologist.
+ Experience performing microscope examinations of cancerous and/or abnormal cells.
+ Experience creating quality control metrics.
+ Experience with fine needle aspirate collection and preparation.
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Ability to process and interpret cytologic material accurately.
+ Ability to abide by State, Federal, and governing agency (CAP, CLIA, HIPAA) guidelines that pertain to cytology.
+ Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments.
+ Ability to effectively communicate with clinicians, patients, staff, and physicians and to maintain positive working relationships.
+ Knowledge of preparatory and staining techniques.
+ Must be able to prioritize tasks.
+ Must be able to discern the cytologic changes present in a disease process, specifically malignant or pre-malignant changes.
+ Must be able to accommodate procedural schedules in times of staffing shortages.
+ Ability to decide on alternate processing techniques.
+ Strong computer skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to teach/instruct, communicate and working well with others.
+ Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of routine and advanced cytology lab equipment.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
